THE ART OF THE DANCE

Saks Fifth Avenue, Donna Karan and The San Francisco Ballet

“I love dance – the sensuality, the movement, the pure expression of the body. I always say if I wasn’t a designer, I’d want to be a dancer like Martha Graham (or a singer like my friend Barbara Streisand.) My love of dance has inspired my design, starting with the foundation of the bodysuit and pair of tights. So we were delighted when Saks Fifth Avenue invited us to join them in doing a luncheon/fashion show in support of the San Francisco Ballet on Friday, May 18th. The oldest professional ballet company in America, the San Francisco Ballet was founded in 1933 and is the company behind some of the world’s most extraordinary dancers. Philanthropy has many worthy paths, and I believe we need to support the arts any way we can, most of all by experiencing them. Dance remains an endless source of inspiration for me. I may not be a dancer, but I design clothes that freely move with the body and enhance its expression. If you can, try to attend a dance at The San Francisco Ballet or at any dance theater near you. Go as often as you can. Dance, music, design…it’s all connected and one of the most rewarding ways you can treat yourself. ”

We’ve just received a FB message from the ‘Don Quixote’ donkey (via his human companion)! He says he has “returned to my usual dusty donkey self and am very very happy to be home”, and thanks us “for the wonderful trek through this latest adventure”.
We love this guy.
